Bio
Benjamin Norbrook’s compositional works combine musical lyricism with textural, granular story-telling in creating spaces of reflection and meditation. They explore the relationship of humans to their environment, engaging with issues of climate change, and revealing the importance of the arts in shaping human geography. Recent performances include The Refuge, a chamber opera, in a semi-staged production at the Royal Academy of Music; Two Maine Visions for harp, viola, double bass and percussion at the Bowdoin International Music Festival in Maine, USA. Norbrook’s practice connects closely with his passion for poetry, literature and visual arts, connecting with artworks spanning from Wang Wei’s classical Chinese poetry to Ursula Le Guin’s anthropological science fiction.
